This Residence has received the BIG SEE Architecture Award 2024 in the Residential Category of ‘Houses’!
The dwelling is situated in a quiet residential area near the Pedieos River.
The intentional placement of the building at the north of the plot, towards the public green area, freed the south side, allowing the possibility of landscaping. The extensive glazing at the south side of the house offers plenty of natural light in the interior and unobstructed views to the garden, while the other three sides have minimal openings, placed at strategic points of the facades. The covered veranda at the southeast end of the courtyard constitutes a lighter construction in the space and functions essentially as a semi-outdoor extension of the main interior living room.
The dominant element on the east side is the long marble-lined wall, which indicates to visitors the main entrance of the building, while it also functions as a privacy barrier between the road and the garden. The rest of the building is mainly comprised of white surfaces, which are mostly recessed on the ground floor, to emphasise the white “frames” on the floor, which incorporate vertical elements of various sizes, cladded with HPL boards on a natural wood finish.
