Schinias Street Residence

This house is located on the northern outskirts of Limassol, in an area named Panthea, which – as the descriptive name suggests – is characterised by remarkable long-horizon views of the coastline. A primary reason the Project Site and the Urban Area enjoy these panoramic views is the terrain’s dramatic topography, which both poses challenges and creates opportunities.

Architecturally the Project perceived the site’s topographic variation as an invitation to create a house of several datums – each with a distinct and complimentary performative charge. This disposition was also favoured by the size of the house, as well as its functional accommodation. As such, the Ground Floor from the side of the Street becomes the primary Living Level, while the Floor below – which also enjoys access to the garden hosts Supportive Facilities.

For their part, the two floors above the ground occupy, respectively, the Sleeping Quarters (1st Floor) and the Study/Library (2nd Floor). Given this programmatic articulation of the section, it was deemed appropriate to allow each of these floors to attain its unique formal and material presence – thereby creating a building whose formal reading has a nuanced part-to-whole relation.
