The recently-completed addition to the European University Cyprus campus hosts the Medical, Dentistry and Veterinary Schools. More specifically, the Project hosts typical tertiary-education classrooms alongside with their supportive facilities, as well as laboratories of different kinds and examination rooms, in tandem with a series of complementary communal spaces.
Given its prominent institutional role in the University, the Project’s architectural ambition was to reach a tensioned interplay between belonging to the series (of buildings in the campus) while being unique and distinctive.
This challenge was heightened by the fact that the building is located along one of Nicosia’s primary transportation arteries – namely, Ayiou Prokopiou Avenue – in an inner periphery location whose urban context is still largely undeveloped. As such, the Project seeks to respond with a subtle robustness to this milieu of expansive distances and accelerated speeds.
