Classic Hotel

Like many hospitality venues in historic urban cores, Classic Hotel is an Adaptive-Reuse Project, which brought together several existing structures that were transformed into a City Hotel.

Our Practice’s involvement was many years after the initial Adaptive-Reuse Project, whereby the Hotel needed a thorough renovation-refurbishment. Taking this opportunity, our Project set as a high priority a tactical reconfiguration of the existing façades in a way whereby they attain more coherence as a single project, while clearly responding to the context’s specificity – be that in the fenestration of Modernist Architecture or the Historic Deployment of Local Sandstone.

Similar to much of the work we admire, the Project seeks to operate as a ‘Set Piece’ in the fabric whose aesthetic disposition is that of a ‘sophisticated disappearance’. In this, the ambition is that the Project creates, first and foremost, a meaningful part of the city, whose presence could go almost unnoticed, while it gradually reveals its complexity and subtle nuances to the attentive observer.
