Jacques Philippou

Jacques Philippou (1930-2009) was an architect and co-founder of J+A Philippou. As the slightly older of the two brothers, Jacques returned to Cyprus from his studies in the summer of 1958, and by August of that year he had set up his own practice. With commission of the Kykkos Secondary Schools, he mobilised the arrival of Andreas, which in turn led to the founding of J+A Philippou in 1960. His career’s output encompasses a remarkable depth and range, some of which has gained international recognition. Beyond his professional output, Jacques had served in numerous Public and Private Institutions – including in the capacity of Nicosia’s Vice-Mayor, at the helm of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation, the first Chairman of the Cyprus Anti-Drugs Council, as well as President of APOEL FC and the Cypriot Architects and Engineers Registration Council.
