The immediate context is undergoing rapid development of large private residences around an established neighbourhood-scale public park.
Architecturally the building is organised as a mediating element between a secluded garden and this activated urban condition. While at ground floor, the filtering is more intense, at first floor the building visually opens to the public green. Unlike many contemporary attempts to ‘dissolve the boundary’ between interior and exterior, here the architecture is articulated as integral to and complementary of a differentiated landscape.
Instead of a monolithic volume which would have negatively impacted the sense of scale and domesticity, the building consists as an assembly of architectural gestures from residential architecture of Nicosia. In this way the experience of microenvironments is enhanced, as well as, an implicit sense of complexity.
