Akaki Residence, in Nicosia District, is a family home that seeks to make the most of its elongated plot. Spatially, the building strategically splits the plot diagonally, creating two distinct gardens: a ‘public’ garden with direct access to the garage, office, and main entrance, and a more ‘private’ garden where family life unfolds, featuring a swimming pool, kids’ playground, and other recreational spaces.
The design maximizes the plot’s potential by organising and orienting spaces according to their function, ensuring optimal daylight and ventilation. This approach also effectively separates the three main functions of the house: the office, the family areas, and the private sleeping quarters. Each space is designed to offer generous views of the surrounding landscape, with the private garden oriented to provide vistas of the Pentadaktilos mountains, while the front public garden offers views of the Troodos mountains.
The residence’s layout not only enhances the living experience by creating distinct zones for different activities, but also ensures a harmonious connection with the natural environment.
