Tochni Linear Park

This landscaping project concerned the formation of a Linear Park along Kamara River, at the point where it runs through the historic core of Tochni Village, Limassol District. Both the study and the design of the Project were strongly informed by the terrain’s dramatic morphology, seeking to adhere and strengthen its amphitheatrical character, which drops significantly down on either side toward the riverbed.

Along the Linear Park and depending on the specifics of the topography and the morphology, a series of open and green spaces are created – such as, small squares, panoramic viewpoints, linear open spaces, and green plateaus, which are connected via a set of paths, bridges and walkways. The principal element of the Project is the Retaining Wall (Δόμη), which historically dominates the spatial character of both the rural settlement and its peripheral agricultural fields.

Given that the riverbed is almost dry in the summer months, it handles the limited water flow via a small channel in its centre, thereby enabling the riverbed itself to function as a major promenade during this period, while still contributing to the enrichment of the ecosystem and to the conservation of the local fauna and flora. The Project’s performative epicentre is a small Outdoor Amphitheatre, which can host music, film and theatrical performances, as well as operate as a meeting place for both residents and visitors.
