This competition entry for the Social Insurance Fund was the product of a fruitful collaboration between the Architectural Practice of Stavros Economou and J+A Philippou architects-engineers. The competition was held in 1961 and concerned a site within Nicosia’s Central Business District.
Given the urban area’s dense and mature vegetation, the project formulated a low-rise building with an internal courtyard – thereby maximising the building’s integration within the existing and proposed landscape. A careful assessment of the plans confers that all primary functional accommodation is in direct visual contact with vegetation – thus crafting workspaces that are as functional as attractive.
