This Workspace Building attempts to overcome two of the inherent limitations of contemporary commercial office buildings. On the one hand, this genre needs to take a stance as to the opposition between a generic spatial organisation, which accommodates a high degree of functional flexibility, with a specific morphological configuration that responds to its context in a sophisticated way.
On the other hand, and because of the abovesaid tendency for flexibility, façades in these kinds of projects usually end up as thin envelopes of ‘curtain wall’ – something which seldom works well within an urban area. In this respect, this project returns to the option of a ‘deeper and more opaque envelope’ – something which can be accomplished either by the deployment of a brise-soleil (sun-shading) system or by the distribution of a second order of tectonic elements.
