The brief of this house provided two main considerations: to design a medium-sized residence with a pool within the large plot, and to limit the whole intervention to only half of the site.<\/p>\n
Initial experiments indicated that the residence could be articulated along the plot\u2019s north street edge in a linear spatial arrangement. This organisation was deemed as the most appropriate, as it maximises the principal open-green space, allows direct relation of this garden with all interior spaces, while still enabling a meaningful urban engagement with the architecture of the primary street. Furthermore, this linear layout has also the advantage of providing natural cross-ventilation for all key spaces.<\/p>\n
This architectural disposition is further elaborated in the manipulation of the proposed morphology: a white envelope takes the role of a \u2018space organiser\u2019 that unfolds along the north and west street boundaries in the form of walls and slabs. Within this shell sit grey opaque volumes, which accommodate the more personal spaces, while the social spaces are rendered in glass.
